Sunshine returns, but severe storms loom for midweek Original

Much-needed sunshine on Sunday allowed us to begin the drying-out process. Clear skies were a welcome sight after the flooding rains that moved through the area this weekend. Springfield picked up more than three and a half inches of rain, while some locations, including Hartville, received more than six inches. Thankfully, we will remain rain-free at the start of the week. Temperatures on Monday will be fairly similar to what we experienced on Sunday.

Severe storms to hit Saturday, followed by a sunny Sunday

This weekend is shaping up to be a mixed bag, with one messy, stormy day on Saturday before sunshine returns on Sunday. Let's focus on the storm chances first. To start Saturday morning, a warm front is expected to lift across the region, creating the opportunity for scattered thunderstorms. Thankfully, this initial round of activity does not appear to be too severe. Rain and storms should diminish during the afternoon as the first round comes to an end.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Missouri Original

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the majority of Missouri as another round of active weather is expected this afternoon. As a cold front approaches from the Northwest, it will serve as a catalyst for scattered and large-scale thunderstorms to develop ahead of it. Some thunderstorms have started to initiate in Eastern Kansas and are expected to develop and become severe after crossing the state line.
