CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Decarlos Brown Jr. has been found incompetent to stand trial in court, U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson confirmed with Queen City News. The decision came Tuesday morning during a hearing at the federal courthouse in Charlotte. The hearing lasted no more than 15 minutes.

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two former Duke Energy employees have been arrested following a utilities theft investigation involving alleged power tampering and large-scale unmetered electricity use near a Cabarrus County RV park, according to court records. On May 27, Duke Energy investigators reported suspected unmetered electricity consumption and equipment tampering at several locations near the Ver-El RV Park and the Route 29 Pavilion area, near the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Lawmakers press Mecklenburg County leaders over ‘avoidable’ death of 6-year-old

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An hours-long hearing is still underway in Raleigh as state lawmakers question Mecklenburg County leaders about the death of 6-year-old Dominique Moody, who was under social services supervision when she died late last year. Investigators say Dominique was abused for months. Her death in December 2025 has prompted intense scrutiny of local agencies and the state’s child welfare system.
