It’s only inevitable that most films about the making of a horror film would slot neatly into the horror genre themselves. For all their calibrated frights, such grisly tableaux can take a real mental and emotional toll on their craftsmen, the make-believe monstrosities tapping into actual primal fears. The idea of losing yourself in a movie is often taken to its most unsettling end in these films, with trauma that persists long after the credits roll.

This year’s FrightFest is nearly upon us – 83 feature films (including documentaries and retrospective titles) and 40 shorts, presented across two Odeon cinemas, five screens in London’s Leicester Square over an extended five-day summer bank holiday weekend. Everything on show falls within the realms of horror, sci-fi and fantasy.

At incident.io we run a deliberately simple technology stack. Keeping things boring has allowed us to scale from a few hundred customers to several thousand, while having only two platform engineers. In this post I'll walk through the stack, explain some of the choices we've made, and touch on the challenges we're facing as we grow. Our cloud provider Historically, parts of the stack ran on Heroku, but as we scaled it made sense to move to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
