When Denton-based musician and producer Charles W. Knowles, or Char-X, sat down to record his new album, he wanted to be completely honest with listeners. “New Man (Album of the Year Edition)” is Char-X's newest 22-track project. The album, half of which is slowed-down “remixed” versions of the tracks, delves into a series of topics and a level of seriousness new for the artist. “Most of my previous work has more humor attached to it,” Char-X said.

Towering, large blank walls appeared around Quakertown Park on June 12. However, as the sun began to set, the walls that seemingly hosted nothing were then illuminated by spectacular projected displays of art for all to see. The radiating colors lighting up Quakertown Park were brought to Denton by AURORA, a public arts organization that curates nights like its Video Art Night. VAN, among other public museum nights, are normally hosted in Dallas.

For nearly a decade, Denton has lacked an open late bar that officially calls itself a queer or gay bar. Now, filling “beer alley” with rainbows and LGTBQ+ flags, The Bearded Monk is officially “coming out” as one in celebration this Pride Month. While the bar was already an LGBTQ+ hotspot, hosting queer events in the past, such as their regularly occurring “Lesbian/Sapphic Hangout,” this move makes the bar, which opened in 2015 and is located at 122 E. McKinney St., more “open” about it.
