Congress has voted to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. That twice-a-year tradition of changing our clocks--either forward or back an hour could soon end, pending a vote by the Senate and final approval by President Trump. But is that a good thing or a bad thing for Michigan? Depends on your point of view. We've been springing forward and falling back for decades now, but America appears to be on the cusp of ending the biannual custom.
Dangerous Heat Returns to Mid-Michigan With Feels-Like Temperatures Near 103 Original
Yet again, Mid-Michigan is getting another blast of dangerous summer heat, and several local communities are opening cooling centers to give residents somewhere nearby to escape it. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Tuesday, July 14, from noon until 8 p.m. Heat index values could climb as high as 103 degrees during the afternoon. The City of Lansing has activated its Code Red plan.
4 Michigan Cities Among America’s Most Affordable for First-Time Buyers
Buying a first home in Michigan now requires savings, patience, and the ability to remain calm while Zillow shows you a $240,000 house with carpeting in the bathroom. Fortunately, four Michigan cities still give buyers a fighting chance of finding their perfect first home. WalletHub compared 300 cities using affordability, real estate market conditions, and quality of life. Flint ranks first in America for affordability, followed by Detroit at 4, Warren at number 13, and Livonia at 16.
Bloody Red Shrimp Have Now Invaded All 5 Great Lakes
Michigan and our Great Lakes have a shrimp problem. Yes, you read that right. Apparently, zebra mussels and sea lampreys weren't filling the invasive species quota fast enough. And don’t start melting butter or breaking out the cocktail sauce yet. These tiny little invaders are far from appetizing. MPR News reports the bloody red shrimp has established a reproducing population in Lake Superior, the final holdout after the species first appeared in the lower Great Lakes in 2006.
Shop Like a Cowboy (Kind of) in Frontier Town, Macomb County
I found this place recently and thought it possibly might have a vague connection to the old Frontier City (NOT Stagecoach Stop) that used to be in the Irish Hills. It doesn’t. Frontier Town and Frontier City are miles apart in difference. Frontier Town is located at 67300 Van Dyke Road in Michigan’s Macomb County town of Washington..... and although there is a slight western look to it, there are no mock gunfight, shootouts, or floozy dance hall girls like the old Frontier City had.
For 72 Years Frandor Remains Lansing’s Favorite Shopping Experience
Frandor is still a favorite place to shop between Lansing and East Lansing, and has been ever since it opened up over 70 years ago! DID YOU KNOW: 1) It opened in 1954. 2) It was built on a former golf course. 3) It was Michigan's second regional shopping center. 4) It got it's name from "Francis" and "Dorothy" Corr. 5) It had an amusement park, mainly for kids. 6) It had a miniature golf course. 7) It was home to the Spartan Twin Theater (I saw many movies there!).

One of Michigan’s most iconic hotels is getting national attention—and it needs your vote to take the crown! USA Today and 10Best are asking their readers "What's the Best Destination Hotel in the U.S."? These are the spots that offer "plush accommodations, top-notch dining, and a host of activities", offering a "complete vacation in a single package." A panel of travel experts picked 20 standout properties, and now the public will decide who takes the top ten spots.
Super El Niño Is Brewing, But Will It Make Michigan Hotter?
Michigan's summer has spent weeks acting like it has a personal grudge against your air conditioner and energy bill. Now a "Super El Niño" is brewing, which sounds like weather ordered from a secret menu. Photo by Immo Wegmann on Unsplash The thermometer shows a very hot temperature. El Niño begins when unusually warm water spreads across the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. That warmth weakens trade winds and can move jet streams and storm tracks around the globe, including Michigan.
Michigan Comic Jeff Arcuri Cracks Netflix Top 5
Michigan has produced cars, cherries, and people who believe a snow brush should come as standard equipment. Now add Netflix chart-climbing Monroe, Michigan, native and stand-up comedian Jeff Arcuri to the list. Arcuri's debut full-length special, Nice to Meet You, arrived July 7 and climbed (so far) to as high as No. 4 on Netflix's U.S. TV chart.
Two Michigan State Baseball Stars Selected in 2026 MLB Draft
Two former Michigan State baseball players are getting their shot at the next level after hearing their names called during the 2026 MLB Draft. Pitcher Nolan Higgins and outfielder Nick Williams were both selected Sunday, adding two more Spartans to the growing list of players drafted under head coach Jake Boss Jr. Higgins was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round, 164th overall pick.
