West Palm Beach, Fla. (WPEC) — South Florida is heading into the first week of September with a familiar late-summer pattern — heat, humidity and plenty of opportunities for showers and thunderstorms, but this will not be a completely routine rainy-season setup. Tropical Storm Edouard has officially formed in the Gulf, becoming the fifth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center upgraded the system to Tropical Storm Edouard with its Monday evening advisory as the storm continues organizing over the warm waters of the northwestern Gulf. Edouard is expected to be a relatively short-lived tropical storm, but that doesn't mean it won't produce significant impacts.
