West Palm Beach, Fla (CBS12) — The heat continues aross the area this afternoon, as storms start developing. Thunderstorms are developing across south Florida and some could produce heavy downpours and gusty winds. There is plenty of moisture in the atmosphere to create an isolated flooding threat today as well. Espeically since some storms can be slow to move. The Weather Prediction Center has put us under a low risk of flooding for the afternoon.

Hot and hazy start to the weekend

Sat, June 27, 2026 at 6:05 AM It's another muggy morning across the area. It's a hot and humid day. (WPEC) Temperatures are in the 70s and low 80s to start the day. We warm back to near 90 for the afternoon, this is average for this time of year. A few showers will move across the area through the morning. In the afternoon, isolated storms are possible, mostly inland. Skies will look a bit hazy at times as Saharan Dust has moved overhead.

Lake Okeechobee water level drops below 11 feet

Fri, June 26, 2026 at 7:11 AM December 29, 2023 -Lake Okeechobee (WPEC) The water levels on Lake Okeechobee have been slowly dropping over the last several months. Currently, the four locks on the northern end of the lake remain closed. These locks remain closed. (WPEC) More recently, it dropped below 11 feet. Right now, the level is 10.98 feet. The low levels are mostly due to the lack of rain Florida has seen over the dry season.
