Michael Dougherty is bringing Sam back to his animated roots with new shorts, artwork, artist collaborations, and merchandise through Sam: The Soul of Halloween. And to celebrate, he sent me a box here at Dread Central HQ filled with Halloween goodies, including handcrafted certificates declaring both me and the site “Sam Approved.” Coming from the filmmaker who gave us Trick ’r Treat, that means a lot to me.

Curry Barker’s Obsession is making a run at the Golden Globes in the musical/comedy categories. Scott Feinberg reports exclusively for The Hollywood Reporter that Focus Features and its fellow stakeholders have submitted the horror hit in that field, citing its dark humor. The report also puts the film’s worldwide gross above $500 million on a reported $750,000 production budget. The submission still needs approval from the Globes.

Guillermo del Toro tried to get involved with a BioShock movie, but a couple of phone calls apparently put him off the idea pretty quickly. Speaking with IGN, the Pan’s Labyrinth and Crimson Peak filmmaker recalled early discussions about adapting the game, describing the experience as “probably one of the most disastrous calls I’ve ever had.” His conclusion: “So no. Fuck no.” He then gets into the difficulty of translating a game’s storytelling into a movie.

Buddy is inviting audiences to sing along with its bright orange unicorn, which sounds considerably safer from a theater seat than it does inside his television show. Buddy: The Sing-Along Version opens in theaters nationwide this Friday, October 2, featuring on-screen lyrics for songs including “It’s Buddy!,” “You’ve Got to Be Scared to Be Brave,” and “The Wrong Place in Town.” Fans are encouraged to dress up and join in.

Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning is entering a whole new System, set to helm the horror picture for Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios, reports Deadline. At this time, there are no plot details. My gut tells me this is another tech-based picture, though. Fingers crossed that Jared Leto has nothing to do with this one. Rønning will direct from a script he co-wrote with his brother Andreas Rønning.

Back in 2021, Netflix acquired Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman‘s script Every House Is Haunted. Now, Deadline reports that the streamer has sold the project to 20th Century Studios.

Need a horror noir fix? Amazon MGM Studios has you covered with a feature film adaptation of the comic Freddie the Fix, reports Deadline. The project is based on the comic created by Garth Ennis (The Boys). Freddie the Fix follows Freddie, a fixer to Hollywood’s supernatural elite, a man with an almost magical gift for making incriminating things disappear. I haven’t read it, but the character sounds vaguely like F. Paul Wilson’s Repairman Jack. Needless to say, I’m incredibly into the premise.
