KAKE Television joined the Kansas airwaves on October 19, 1954 broadcasting directly out of Wichita. The station became an ABC affiliate in 1955, a relationship that continues to this day. The local programming created by KAKE in its early years would win over a generation of lifetime viewers. Children’s shows like Romper Room, Captain Bill, and Santa’s Workshop brought kids hurrying home after school, while their parents learned to “keep it on KAKE” for the best local news and weather.
In October 1964, KAKE signed on satellite station KUPK from Garden City for viewers in southwestern Kansas. Today, KAKE also delivers up-to-the-minute newscasts and severe weather coverage to KLBY in northwest Kansas and KHDS-LD northcentral Kansas.
From “Good Morning Kansas” to “KAKE News at 10,” KAKE lives up to its On Your Side brand with almost 40 hours of locally-produced news coverage each week. After various broadcast owners in its 60 plus years, Lockwood Broadcast Group officially acquired KAKE on February 1, 2016. To this day KAKE continues to deliver Kansas’s favorite local news - building on a history of broadcast leadership while delivering relevant local content to fit the digital media landscape of tomorrow. (CNN) — President Donald Trump’s expensive subscription for instant access to his Truth Social posts is unconstitutional, according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday. The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation jointly sued Trump and his White House social media team for restricting their access to the president’s posts on Truth Social. The plaintiffs claim Trump violated their First and Fifth Amendment rights.
Three years after police raid on Kansas newspaper, reporter settles lawsuit for $850K
TOPEKA — Phyllis Zorn, the reporter whose acts of journalism served as an excuse for the August 2023 police raid of the Marion County Record, will get $850,000 from the city of Marion to settle her federal lawsuit over the raid. Attorneys for Zorn and the city filed a motion Tuesday, exactly three years after the raid, to dismiss the case. Kansas Reflector reviewed a copy of the settlement agreement, which has not been entered into the court record. Zorn said her long national nightmare is over.

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A federal grand jury in Wichita returned an indictment charging a former Kansas police officer with attempting to produce child sexual abuse material. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Kansas, said in a press release on Wednesday that 24-year-old Tyller White, of Parsons, was indicted on one count of sexual exploitation of a child – attempted production of child pornography.
