The VA is looking for volunteers at the Eagle Point National Cemetery to beautify the grounds and clean headstones. That will be on Saturday, September 12th. On that day, communities across the U.S. will be paying tribute to service members and responders with a national day of service and remembrance.
Women’s Crisis Support Team collecting clothing donations for fall sale
GRANTS PASS, Ore. – In our community news, your old clothing can get a new life while helping local survivors. The Women’s Crisis Support Team (WCST) is collecting donations of women’s and men’s clothing, coats, shoes, purses, and jewelry now through October 7. Donations can be placed in the collection drop box outside Evergreen’s Bear Hotel at 2101 NE Spalding Avenue in Grants Pass.

The university’s digital cinema program has been included on the magazine’s annual list of the 30 best film schools in the U.S. and Canada. The program, which is part of SOU’s Communication, Media, and Cinema Department, launched in 2019 and has seen steady growth since then.
Documentary on mysterious 60 ft. hole on Mt. Shasta playing in Ashland
SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – A documentary about a mystery at Mount Shasta is coming to Ashland next month. The Hole Story tries to get to the bottom of an unexplained 60-foot hole that mysteriously appeared on Mount Shasta back in 2009. Over the years, several theories and urban legends have emerged about its origins. While the hole has since been filled, the mystery of how it got there in the first place remains.

Community forum addresses substance issues in Curry County
CURRY COUNTY, Ore. – A community forum was held last night in Port Orford to bring awareness to substance abuse and other challenges residents are facing in Curry County Healthcare workers, law enforcement and service providers across several organizations coordinated the meeting to gather public input. One of the main concerns included the prevalence of HIV in the small county and the use of other substances. According to an attendee, 10 cases of HIV were reported last year.
Local businessman Joel Caswell sentenced to 42 months in prison
MEDFORD, Ore. — A Jacksonville man was sentenced on Friday for tax evasion, employment tax crimes, bank fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. 32-year-old Joel Caswell was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison and 5 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay over $1.1 million in restitution to the IRS. Caswell operated three logging and construction businesses that employed approximately 40 employees.
Grants Pass man works to clean up dumped trash along Savage Creek Road
GRANTS PASS, Ore. – A Grants Pass man is taking wilderness clean-up into his own hands. Bart Elder is a 64-year-old wildlife photographer who lives on Savage Creek Road in the Grants Pass area. Several years ago, Elder grew tired of seeing piles of trash, including refrigerators, plastic waste, and even entire vehicles illegally dumped along public roads.
