The book called 'Welcome to Paradox City' is written by Mark Lamster who is the Pulitzer-prize winning architecture critic for the Dallas Morning News. "It begins with Millermore, which is sort of the Greek Dallas mansion of the Antebellum period that sort of established what a great Dallas house would look like," Lamster said.

PUERTO MALDONADO, Peru (AP) — Eight Peruvian navy personnel jumped from a helicopter into a clearing carved out of the Amazon rainforest by illegal gold miners along the Malinowski River in Peru’s Madre de Dios region, sending sand and dust swirling as they ran toward the mining site. The forest gave way to giant holes gouged into the earth and filled with opaque, muddy water, gasoline and other chemicals glistening on the surface.

LONDON (AP) — A passenger train derailed near London on Friday, British Transport Police said, the second derailment in two days after two people were seriously injured when another train came off the tracks on Thursday. Police said officers, paramedics and firefighters were at the scene near Wickford train station in Essex, about 30 miles east of London (48 kilometers), after receiving reports that the rear carriages of a train derailed.

A Dallas apartment fire early Friday morning displaced 24 residents and led to an arson arrest, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Firefighters were called around 12:27 a.m. to the Buena Vista Apartments in the 3900 block of Altoona Drive. Crews found heavy fire coming from the front and side of the two-story building and battled the flames for nearly two hours before extinguishing them at 1:55 a.m. Four apartment units sustained moderate to significant damage.

DALLAS — A novel approach to public education is making its Texas debut this school year with the launch of The Museum School of East Dallas. Founded by veteran educator and superintendent Loren Colman, the tuition-free public charter school flips traditional classroom learning on its head by utilizing an immersive, hands-on museum model. Instead of relying on textbooks or static lectures, students will spend time directly in the community interacting with artifacts, art, and environments.

Fort Worth police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a suspected road rage shooting that killed an Everman ISD educator early Thursday on Interstate 20. According to the Fort Worth Police Department, Patrick Lawrence faces a murder charge in the death of LaTaivia Davis. Officers said the shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near Trail Lake Drive and Granbury Road in southwest Fort Worth.

More than 20,700 Texas students have returned or opted out of their school vouchers, according to data obtained by The Dallas Morning News, even as the state awarded more than 122,000 Texas Education Freedom Accounts. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A late summer heat wave has gripped much of the United States in a sweaty headlock and forecasters say it won't let go anytime soon. Roughly 97 million people from the central Plains to the Southeast face heat advisories. Dangerous temperatures are expected in more than a dozen states in the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley through Wednesday, the National Weather Service said. Some places could hit 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius), forecasters said.
