CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Charlottesville early Friday morning, police said. Charlottesville Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of Old Preston Avenue for a report of a shooting at 1:49 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located an adult man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Anyone who lives in Charlottesville or Albemarle County can get rid of household hazardous waste this weekend, free of charge, at the Ivy Solid Waste and Recycling Center on Dick Woods Road. It’s part of the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority’s free disposal days.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Virginia politicians are reacting after the deaths of former Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were ruled a murder-suicide. Police in Annandale say the couple was found dead inside their home early Thursday morning, April 16. Authorities say their children were inside the house at the time. Investigators say they responded to the home following a 911 call reporting a domestic situation.

The finance committee approved a tuition increase of 3.6% for undergraduate programs, differing increases for graduate programs, and a 2.5% rise in tuition and fees for the college at Wise. ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Open-air burning is banned in Albemarle County through 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office announced the ban in a news release published Thursday, April 16. The Fire Marshal’s Office said the ban was announced in response to the National Weather Service’s elevated fire risk alert. “During the burn ban, all open-air burning is prohibited,” according to the news release.
