CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - With the Fourth of July approaching, UVA Health is urging the public to take precautions around fireworks, which trauma specialists say send thousands of people to the hospital each year. Nearly 13,000 firework-related injuries were treated in emergency rooms across the United States last year, with about 15 reported fatalities, according to Valerie Quick, director of the trauma program at the UVA Health Trauma Center.
