Parade attendees watched as waves of decorated antique cars, enthusiastic marchers and the flashing lights of service vehicles processioned through Denton. This was all part of the Denton Juneteenth organization’s annual parade through the city, which included a week-long celebration of the day the final slaves in Texas were emancipated.

In a small, watchful, conservative town, a frowned upon desire only grew into danger among the few who were unfortunate enough to have their secret revealed in the psychological horror film, “Leviticus.” Exceptionally weaving in the common fear among queer people of being unaccepted, “Leviticus” not only highlights the harm of homophobia and repression, but it lays out shame, guilt and distrust in a raw form.
