WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the White House to continue construction on its $400 million ballroom project while it appeals a lower court’s order to halt the work. Trump’s solicitor general petitioned the high court to suspend last week’s decision by a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - A man who was training to become a sheriff’s deputy in Richland County has found himself on the other side of the law. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Kenneth Edmonds has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Richland authorities said Edmonds had been employed by the department since January and was in training to become a deputy.

GILBERT, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) — A pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed Thursday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash on an Arizona freeway. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on the Loop 202 Santan near Power Road in the Gilbert area. A large work truck failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended four vehicles, according to Arizona authorities.

ATLANTA (ANF/Gray News) — A 10-year-old girl and her family are thanking a DeKalb County teacher who helped rescue her after she got caught in a rip current while visiting South Carolina. Derrick Moore, 47, jumped into the water Friday evening after spotting 10-year-old Summer McCallum in distress. However, Moore ended up being pulled under by a current. His body was recovered the following morning, nearly a mile from where he entered the water, Myrtle Beach police said.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (WOWT/Gray News) - A Nebraska man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman a day before he was getting married. Tyler Weber, 33, was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual assault and first-degree false imprisonment after DNA results contradicted his claims that he did not assault the victim. Weber is accused of raping the woman, who was 19 and married and had gathered with a group of people at his home to prepare for his wedding in May, a day before the nuptials.

(AP) - The U.S. Army has halted all Apache helicopter training missions Friday after a fatal crash in Texas earlier this week killed two soldiers. The Apache attack helicopter had been a core part of Army aviation since the first one was delivered in 1984. More than 5,000 Apaches have been deployed by the U.S. military and its allies over the decades. The Army is investigating the crash that happened Tuesday outside of Salado, Texas, which is not far from Fort Hood.
