The 2026 hurricane season is halfway through for both the Atlantic and Pacific, with just five tropical storms reported for the Atlantic. The lower-than-average number of storms is likely due to the El Niño event gearing up in the Pacific Ocean. Both El Niño and La Niña can impact hurricane season. For the hurricanes over the Pacific, there can be fewer hurricanes during a La Niña and more during an El Niño. The opposite is true for the Atlantic hurricane season.

After the jury in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy twice reported that they were unable to reach consensus in their deliberations, the judge decided to issue the Tuey-Rodriguez instruction in hopes that the push would tip them toward making a decision.

HART COUNTY, Ga. - Five arrests have been made in the 2022 deadly shooting at a bar in Hartwell, Georgia. The shooting happened about 2 a.m. on Sept 5. 2022, at Jack's Bar and Grill. Roberius Thornton, 39, of Hartwell, and Joseph Johnson, 24, of Bowman died in the shooting. Several other people were injured.

Pabst Blue Ribbon wants its beer back, and it's offering a reward to help that happen. Greig DeBow, the CEO of Pabst Brewing Co., said Wednesday that the company will pay up to $20,000 to anyone who provides new information that leads to the recovery of 1,602 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer. The beer went missing Aug. 17 in Southern California. "I'm sure they look cool with a garage full of PBR," DeBow said in a post on TikTok. "That's actually not cool though.

Jurors in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children in 2023, reported a continued deadlock during their fifth day of deliberations Wednesday, and Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan presented a special instruction designed to push them to keep trying.

Apple has relabeled Lake Ontario to "Lake America" for U.S. users of its Maps app, following competitor Google days after President Donald Trump ordered a new name for the body of water amid his escalating trade war with Canada. As of Wednesday morning, Apple Maps displayed "Lake America" for U.S. users looking at the lake that sits between the state of New York and Canada's Ontario province. Users outside of the U.S. still saw the Lake Ontario name.

The Chinese government is pressing for answers after a Chinese man died hours after being taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a U.S. territory. Lianyong Wei, 51, died Aug. 23 at a hospital in the Northern Mariana Islands, ICE announced in a news release Tuesday. Wei was arrested Aug. 21 by the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety on criminal charges stemming from an alleged assault on a family of five at their home, according to ICE.

An adult was wounded in a shooting at a Virginia elementary school Wednesday morning, according to an official who responded to the scene and confirmed no children were injured. Jim Wood, a Waynesboro city council member whose district includes Westwood Hills Elementary School, said the shooting was an isolated incident and that the shooter is no longer a threat. He declined to elaborate on the suspect's status.

A $1 gold-colored coin featuring the likeness of President Donald Trump began circulating Wednesday, officials with the U.S. Mint said. One side of the coin features Trump's face with the word "Liberty" engraved at the top. Beneath Trump's face are the years 1776-2026, representing the nation's 250th birthday. The reverse side depicts the presidential seal with "250" inscribed at the center. The coins can be used as legal tender.

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. - The suspect accused of shooting an officer on Tuesday night in Georgia shot and killed himself during a traffic stop along Interstate 85 in Anderson County, South Carolina, according to the Anderson County Sheriff.
