Businesses close, or face costly coverage, under new liquor liability law

The South Carolina Bar and Tavern Association estimates 325 businesses have closed statewide since lawmakers established new insurance and training mandates for liquor sales. Those who have managed face unsustainable prices and a lack of options for coverage. Between 75 and 80 of those businesses, according to Executive Director Christopher Smith, were Upstate-based."That's in the span of about a year and a half. People can no longer afford insurance premiums.
