1 INTRODUCTION Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is the primary preoperative modality in the pathologic examination of head and neck lesions.1, 2 It is one of the more exciting, but challenging areas of cytopathology due to the variety in clinical presentation and overlapping pathologic features. From primary salivary gland tumors to cystic lesions and metastases, there is no scarcity in diagnostic challenges. One recurring issue in daily practice is the identification of squamous cells on FNA.
