Years of whiplash for Pittsburgh Public Schools parents and residents over the possibility of school closures laid bare their intensely emotional connections to the buildings - and the district's ongoing financial distress. The school board voted last week to shutter nine schools, ending a tumultuous three years filled with protests, contentious hearings and pleas from kids to keep their schools open.
