Kangaroo & Kiwi owner taking over former Shingletown Saloon space

A new country-themed bar is planned for the former Shingletown Saloon space in Ballard. The Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) reports that Bradley Howe, owner of Kangaroo & Kiwi, plans to open Country Roads at 2016 NW Market St, the space previously occupied by Shingletown Saloon. The new bar—just a couple of doors down from Kangaroo & Kiwi—is expected to open in October. Shingletown Saloon closed in April after 11 years in Ballard.

National Nordic Museum launches virtual Run Like a Viking

The National Nordic Museum is hosting its annual monthlong virtual Run Like a Viking Challenge in August. Run Like a Viking, which went virtual in 2020, allows participants to complete a 5K, 10K, or half marathon on their own schedule and route. Participants can choose how they want to complete the distance, including walking, running, hiking, rowing, or skateboarding.

Apartment fire displaces residents on N 45th St

A two-alarm fire at a three-story apartment building in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood displaced residents from all 12 units Thursday morning, according to the Seattle Fire Department. The Seattle Fire Department said it received multiple 911 calls at 6:21 a.m. reporting smoke coming from a residential building in the 100 block of N. 45th St. Engine 9 was the first unit to arrive and reported smoke coming from the roof of the building.
