Gram-negative bacteria are the predominant pathogens responsible for healthcare-associated infections (HAI) worldwide, causing infections at various specimen sites including urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections and pneumonia. According to local surveillance in Singapore, the top three gram-negative pathogens that contribute to HAI are Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa, 11.5%), Escherichia coli (E. coli, 10.4%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae, 10.2%) [1].
