INTRODUCTION Manta and devil rays (mobulids) are an iconic group of slow-growing, filter-feeding rays (Couturier et al., 2012). Found globally in tropical and subtropical waters, the ten described mobulid species range widely in size, from Munk's devil ray (Mobula munkiana) (up to 1.1 m disc width) to the oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris) (up to 7.1 m disc width) (Couturier et al., 2012; Stewart et al., 2018).
