Melissa Geurts’s Biography

Melissa Geurts

Group Executive Creative Director, Good Housekeeping (Hearst)
New York, NY

I lead creative strategy across digital, social, video, and print at Good Housekeeping, working closely with the Good Housekeeping Institute to translate testing and research into clear, credible journalism for a broad audience.

I come from the art and creative direction side, which shapes everything about how I approach stories. I don't think about words in isolation. I think about the whole package from the start: headlines, subheads, visuals, pacing, how it all lands together. That lens has been with me since my first magazine job in home decor at Style at Home in Canada.

I also write—both first-person and reported pieces—at the intersection of service journalism, wellness, and lived experience. I'm most interested in the emotional realities behind lifestyle trends: sleep, home systems, mental health, and how technology actually affects daily life. Usefulness over hype.

Canadian, with editorial experience in both U.S. and Canadian media, including Chatelaine and Style at Home.

Outside of Hearst, I publish The Blue Algorithm on Substack, host Audio Spells (an audio project about emotional well-being and design), and release music as recording artist @melissageurts, with 500K+ Spotify streams across 149 countries. These projects inform how I think about storytelling, audience trust, and what makes content genuinely connect.

Pitch me: emotional storytelling; technology in everyday life (including AI); wellness and mental health; sleep; home and gardening; beauty; creativity; culture; consumer trust and product testing
