What was your first job as a journalist?
My first reporting gig was at The Examiner, a weekly local newspaper in Westchester County, New York.

People are living their lives online, so they are driving the culture of news and are more empowered to be in control of their information.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist means having that inner drive to chase the story, and to always be a responsible and trustworthy source of information.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer people to email me a pitch, followed by a phone call, so I can have all the information in front of me when we discuss the story.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Gmail, Google Docs, Google Plus, Twitter, Facebook, Flipboard, major newspapers, and now Muck Rack!
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook is my go-to social network because it connects me with friends and family and keeps me informed on what's going on around the world.

Why did you become a journalist?
I am insatiably curious and love storytelling.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was editor of the paper and my first issue was especially daunting, having to write the front-page tribute for my life-long friend.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Covering a Brooklyn homicide in graduate school. I was the first reporter on the scene and had no choice but to knock on the door.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
In an interview, never ask questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no.
When's the best time to pitch you?
First thing in the morning, so I can prioritize it in my day.
