A troll doll with a cigarette lighter inside its body is just one of many unsafe products being sold online that places the public at risk – according to consumer group Choice. It’s calling on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to investigate online marketplaces and suppliers to see if they are selling unsafe products as part of a “super complaint” it has submitted to the regulator.

Booking.com is being sued in Europe, but Aussie travellers aren't included

Motel owner Simon Wurs was so furious with his Booking.com contract he broke it to give his customers a better deal. Customers who booked directly on the website of his Bendigo City Centre motel saved plenty of money, paying $165 a night for a standard double room compared to those who reserved the same room through Booking.com and paid $190. Booking.com has become increasingly popular with Aussie travellers due to its slick design, which makes finding and reserving a room fast and easy.

ACCC sues Amazon over alleged misuse of button batteries in kids backpacks

The consumer watchdog is suing Amazon alleging it sold kids unicorn backpacks on its online marketplace which failed to comply with mandatory button battery safety warnings. It is the first Federal court case taken by the ACCC against an online marketplace over alleged non-compliance with product safety standards. Button batteries pose a serious health risk for children if they're swallowed or inserted and can cause life-threatening injuries or death.
