I Am Not Setting Dates for the Second Coming, But Things Are Different Today
When I came to faith in Jesus at the age of 16 in 1971, we were told that all signs pointed to Jesus returning very soon, possibly any minute. Hal Lindsey’s bestselling book The Late Great Planet Earth laid it all out, Jerusalem was back in Jewish hands, and the counterculture revolution was the final rebellion prophesied in the Bible. Surely, we thought, He’ll be back any moment now. That was more than 55 years ago, and since then, many other predictions have come and gone.

Let Us Not Underestimate the Degree of Moral Decline in America
In the last few years, there have been significant victories for conservative, biblically based morality here in America, and these victories should be celebrated. But as we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary and there is much excitement about formally dedicating the country back to God, we dare not underestimate the degree of moral decline in our land. In many ways, we are sicker than we realize. To be sure, we can celebrate the overturning of Roe v.

Antisemitism, Canaries in Coal Mines, Conspiracy Theories, and Kool-Aid
Everywhere we turn, antisemitism –thehatred and demonizationofJewish people – is on the rise, and thatrise is both meteoricand, quite literally, deadly. It is national and global, on the political Left and Right, among the religious and non-religious, and growing exponentially on social media. Tracking this disturbing phenomenon, let alone responding to it, would require a dedicated team working 24/7, and even that would not be enough. What, then, is the purpose of this article?

Missouri Synagogue Fire and Christian’ Antisemitism
What prompts a 19-year-old college student to set a historic synagogue on fire in Jackson, Missouri? (This happened on January 10, 2026.) What prompts another 19-year-old college student to carry a rifle into a synagogue in Poway, California and begin shooting at random, seeking to kill as many Jews as possible?
America First, Christian Nationalism, and Antisemitism
Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.” Is there a connection between the America First movement and the rising tide of Jew-hatred in America? And will Christian nationalism lead to antisemitism? Obviously, to answer these questions, we must define what we mean by “America First” and “Christian nationalism,” since for many adherents, these are extremely innocuous terms.

At best, and in the most non-threatening terms, "America First" simply means that while we don't ignore the rest of the world, we put the needs of our country first.

A Jarring Reminder of Our Nation’s Cultural Demise
On November 10, the Supreme Court declined to reconsider the landmark, 2015 Obergefell decision, which radically redefined marriage. This is highly significant, since, even with the current 6-3 conservative majority, not enough justices were found who were willing to reopen the case – at least not now. And yet it was not that long ago in America that talk about same-sex “marriage” sounded as oxymoronic as talk about fast sloths.
Understanding Israel’s Pain
As the nation of Israel eagerly awaits the return of the remaining hostages, some of them alive (perhaps barely so), the rest of them dead, there will be much celebration and joy. At last, after more than two hellish years, they will be home. But there is also much pain, and not just the pain of the moment. It is the cumulative pain of generations. Some will immediately say, “But what about the people of Gaza? What about their pain?
Understanding Judaism and Heart of God for His People
Is Judaism simply a formalistic, legalistic religion? For some Jews, I’m sure it is, just as Christianity can be formalistic and legalistic for some professing Christians. But for many religious Jews, the beauty is in the details, and every word carries meaning. Jews around the world have just completed their observance of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
“I Forgive Him” and the Ministry of Reconciliation
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) These were the words spoken by Jesus as He hung on the cross. “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” (Acts 7:60) These were the words spoken by Stephen as he was being stoned to death. “That young man . . . . I forgive him.” These were the words spoken by Erika Kirk less than two weeks after her husband was murdered in front of her eyes.
The legacy of the martyrs
It was Jesus Himself who said, “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12:24). Consider the many seeds produced by the five martyrs in Ecuador in 1956, Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming and Roger Youderian, who engaged in a very dangerous outreach mission to an unreached tribe known for its violence.

Longing for His Return Rather Than Date Setting
On September 18, 2017, I posted an article titled, “Sorry to Tell You, But Jesus Is Not Returning on September 23.” I could repost that same article today, word for word, and it would be just as relevant, as once again, some Christians are predicting the Lord’s return to rapture His church on that very day this year. But it’s not because September 23 itself carries any significance.
Gen Z Moving from Atheism to Faith
The story is told about an American shoe company that decided to expand its sales overseas, building warehouses in new locations around the world to stock their supplies. After shipping thousands of boxes of shoes to their newest location in Africa, their top salesman arrived to get things started.
How Should We Respond to Christian Slaughter in Africa?
Once again, there is tragic news about the deadly persecution of Christians in Africa. This time, it comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where it was reported by Open Doors that, “At least 40 Christians who had gathered for a night prayer vigil at a church were killed when suspected Islamist militants attacked” their town. The details of the attack are chilling. Open Doors notes that, According to the BBC, nine children are amongst those killed.
God Did Not Call Us to Be Contentious
It is one thing to be bold. It is another thing to be argumentative. It is one thing to be confrontational. It is another thing to be contentious. Yet we often confuse these things, thinking that in order to present our positions boldly and without compromise, we must be contentious and argumentative.
The Major World Events Are Not Prophesied in the Bible
The Bible is an amazingly prophetic book. Its divinely inspired authors prophesied the details and timing of the first coming of the Messiah. They named the names of important rulers centuries before their birth. And they predicted the worldwide scattering and regathering of the Jewish people. But the vast majority of major world events, including major world events in the Middle East, are not prophesied in the Bible.
The Church Is Not Spiritual Israel
There is no caste system or class system in Jesus. In Him, Jew and Gentile are one just as male and female are one. As Paul wrote in terms of our salvation, “For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,’” (Rom. 10:12–13).

Israel Iran Battle
When Israel is at war, it is only natural for Jews and Christians to turn to the Scriptures for inspiration, comfort, and guidance. That’s why Israel’s chief rabbis called for their communities to pray specific psalms, including Psalm 20, 121, and 130.
Donald Trump and the Cultural Revolution
What are the cultural implications of Donald Trump’s decisive presidential victory? On the one hand, he incurred the ire of the pro-life movement by distancing himself from historic pro-life stances, gutting the GOP platform in the process.
Artificial intelligence and the mind of God are alike?
By , Op-ed Contributor Our grandson Connor made a very interesting comment when he was a little boy. His parents (our daughter and son-in-law) were praying for him when he was fighting some minor illness, asking God to heal him. When nothing happened, he said, “Jesus doesn’t have enough hands to heal everyone.” That was his childlike way of explaining why he wasn’t healed. Jesus only had so many hands with which He could touch the sick. He couldn’t get to everyone.
The furries are here in full force
By , Op-ed Contributor Although what you’re about to read sounds preposterous, it is absolutely true. And while it sounds laughable, it is sadder than it is funny. Let me give you the background first then, then I’ll share with you the reason for this article.

A safe place in the midst of these volatile elections (part 2)
By , Op-ed Contributor Psalm 91 invites us to take refuge in God alone, the ultimate place of safety. In part 1, we covered verses 1-4. Now, we continue with the rest of the psalm. Enjoy! Verses 5-6: “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday” (NIV).
A safe place in the midst of these volatile elections (part 1)
By , Op-ed Contributor Whoever wins today, of this we can be sure: America will be in turmoil, and emotions will run high. But for those who have a personal relationship with God, there is a place of refuge from the storm. It is God’s hiding place — or secret place — and it is described in Psalm 91 (unless otherwise noted, the NIV is used below).
What's driving many voters from Harris and Democrats
By , Op-ed Contributor Most of us heard the fable of the scorpion and the frog. As paraphrased on Wikipedia, it goes like this: “A scorpion wants to cross a river but cannot swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid that the scorpion might sting it, but the scorpion promises not to, pointing out that it would drown if it killed the frog in the middle of the river. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion.

The moral blindness of Kamala Harris’ position on abortion
By , Op-ed Contributor In a surprising statement during a townhall meeting earlier this month, presidential candidate Kamala Harris said, “I’ll tell you, there are probably many here and watching who, rightly, have made a decision that they do not believe in abortion. The point that I am making is not about changing their mind about what’s right for them or their family. It’s simply saying the government shouldn’t be making this decision.” Really?
Samaritan’s Purse and the real Gospel in action in North Carolina
By , Op-ed Contributor To the shock of the state of North Carolina, where my wife Nancy and I have lived since 2003, Hurricane Helene wreaked massive devastation, taking at least 118 lives with at least 92 still missing. No one saw this coming, and it has brought unimaginable suffering to whole communities living in the mountains of our state, where horrific, unprecedented flooding wiped out little towns and destroyed countless homes, businesses, and roads.
Did Jesus give Christian leaders right to use coarse political rhetoric?
By , Op-ed Contributor A seasoned ministry colleague wrote to me last week asking for assistance. “I need some help with exegesis of Luke 13:31-32,” he said. “I spoke at a conference last week with many pastors who used that passage where Jesus calls Herod a fox as their rationale for using coarse language about Harris/Walz and the other political side.

America won't be saved without a revival
By , Op-ed Contributor As we approach the momentous November 5 elections, there are plenty of people who can offer a more astute political commentary than me, so I’ll defer to them right now. What I can do is help ignite a fresh spiritual fire in each of us, knowing that, as we burn bright, America will be changed. Revival in the church remains the only real hope of the nation. (If you are not a follower of Jesus, you may not find the rest of this article relevant.

Christian friend, Israel’s ultimate enemy is your ultimate enemy
By , Op-ed Contributor Speaking to a Joint Session of Congress on July 25, Prime Minister Netanyahu underscored that when Israel is waging war against Hamas, Iran, and other radical Islamic powers, they are fighting America’s enemies too. That’s why the slogan of Yemen’s Houthis rebels states, “God is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam.” America and Israel are deeply intertwined.

Politics Is Important, But Politics Is Not the Gospel
Politics is very important. Politics played a role in the abolition of slavery and segregation and in the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Conversely, it was because of a political vote that Hitler came into power, resulting in the deaths of multiplied tens of millions of lives. So politics can be very important. Politics affects the economy, which in turn affects everyday life. Politics affects national security, which can be a matter of life and death.
When Charles Spurgeon took on slavery
By , Op-ed Contributor Without a doubt, Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) and Billy Graham (1918-2018) were Gospel preachers rather than social justice warriors. Yet both of them addressed some of the greatest social evils of their day without for a moment diluting their Jesus-centered messages. To be sure, they lost some of their audiences because of the stands they took. But they never took their eyes off the ultimate goal: lifting up the risen Savior and pointing all people to Him.
Joe Rogan, Kid Rock and Bill Maher can't lead the moral and cultural revolution
By , Op-ed Contributor I appreciate the many secular, even atheistic and non-Christian voices that have pushed back against radical trans-activism. They spoke loudly and clearly and boldly and fearlessly. Good for them! But if America is to be changed in a lasting, positive way, we cannot only push back against what is wrong.
David French, Kamala Harris and the bizarre story of the failed messiah Shabbetai Tzvi
By , Op-ed Contributor As an unashamedly pro-life Christian who believes “life begins at conception,” New York Times journalist David French has announced that, “I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 and — ironically enough — I’m doing it in part to try to save conservatism.” With all respect to Mr. French, with whom I’ve dialogued privately about this, I find his position both indefensible and bizarre.

Skillet’s New Song ‘Unpopular’ Could Be the Anthem
No one likes the feeling of rejection. No one enjoys being put out. It stings to be rejected and it hurts to be cast out. Yet obedience to the Lord often means rejection, while standing for the truth is often the surefire path to being unpopular. That’s why Jesus said, “Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets” (Luke 6:26).
Conservatives have more kids than liberals. But ...
By , Op-ed Contributor A July 2021 headline in the Western Journal announced, “Birth Rates Are the Right’s Secret Weapon as Liberal Values Backfire.” The article by Miska Salleman stated that, “Data from the General Social Survey indicates that in the 1970s ‘there was little or no difference in fertility rates between liberal and conservative women,’ according to the Institute for Family Studies.” Over time, though, that statistic has changed dramatically, and Salleman reports, “As of 2018,...
America is doomed. Only a specific type of revival can help
By , Op-ed Contributor We are living at a critical moment in American history. How we respond today will go a long way in determining the future of our nation — or whether our nation even continues to exist as the United States of America. Simply stated, without a sweeping revival in the church that leads to a national awakening, America as we know it is doomed.
