I had the good fortune to participate in the Storytelling Festival that took place in Shipyards Park this past Saturday. It was sponsored by Yukon Commissioner Adeline Webber and hosted by the current Yukon Story Laureate, John Firth. For those who did not attend, you missed out on a showcase of some of the Yukon’s most talented storytellers, musicians, folklorists, poets, and writers. Among the notables were some poets who shared samples of their current work.

In June 1898, the Yukon Order of Pioneers honoured the departure of Inspector and Mrs. Charles Constantine. Being one of the few government officials on the scene before the turbulent transition from isolated mining community to boisterous boom town, Constantine kept a steady hand on the affairs of the territory until he was replaced by Superintendent Sam Steele. The Yukon Order of Pioneers held a large, special meeting on the afternoon of June 18, the day before the Constantines’ departure.

Allen Matkins Team Victorious in Jury Trial with $80 Million Verdict
