To subscribe, please click here In his Gettysburg Address, President Abraham Lincoln spoke of the need for “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” When Lincoln said “of the people,” he meant that the power to govern comes from citizens, not a king or army. “By the people” meant that citizens choose their own leaders through voting. “For the people” meant that government works to help and protect all people, not just a small or rich group.

To subscribe, please click here Penn State pitcher Dimond Loosli was one of several student-athletes from the high school Class of 2022 who sued the NCAA over its new five-year eligibility rule, telling the court that it would cause him to ‘lose the opportunity to further develop my skills and showcase them at one (of) the top baseball programs in the country.’ If you created a caricature of the NCAA, it would have no ears.

My Turn | Wave of lawsuits targets NCAA’s five-year rule

An Ohio court ruling on July 9 added to cases that are stifling the NCAA’s efforts to regulate name, image and likeness. Judge Christopher Wagner granted a preliminary injunction for 24 high-level men’s and women’s college basketball players who sued the NCAA, claiming its recently passed age-based eligibility model wrongly denies them another year of competition. Most play for Xavier, Cincinnati, Dayton, Penn State, Baylor and Missouri.
