What is happening on the Texas grid, however, looks nothing like that. Demand from AI data centers now surpasses anything the grid has faced. ERCOT has more than 400 gigawatts of interconnection requests waiting to be approved, which is nearly five times the state’s all-time peak demand. That is not a transition; it is an explosion.
