Looking back at the Deer Stand Murders following death of Chai Soua Vang

The story of the deer hunters shot and killed in November 2004 — a rampage later named the Deer Stand Murders — has come to a close with the death of convicted killer Chai Soua Vang, 57, on June 10. Vang’s death was noted on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access Portal website. According to the Department of Corrections, he had been incarcerated at the Oshkosh Correctional Facility for the past 14 months after spending most of the past 20 years at an out-of-state prison.

Barron County man gets prison time for spitting incident while awaiting trial for mother's assault

A Cumberland man has been sentenced to prison for spitting at a Barron County detective after he was arrested for critically injuring his mother in an assault, for which he remains unconvicted. Police say Devin C. Baldwin, 30, attacked and severely injured his mother on Jan. 20, 2025, in Cumberland.

Lightning strike cuts BlackHawk performance short at Aquafest, about 5 spectators suffered minor injuries

A downtown Rice Lake lightning strike Friday evening brought BlackHawk’s Aquafest performance to an abrupt halt and resulted in minor injuries to a handful of spectators. "BlackHawk came to the stage to get ahead of the incoming weather," said Aquafest Co-chair John Lehman. The country music band members were willing to play until they were no longer able and then return after the storm passed.
