I grew up thinking manliness meant taking care of others. Multiple sclerosis helped me redefine masculinity. I’m a Baby Boomer, and when I was growing up, I learned from my dad and my uncles — and from society itself — that a man’s role was to take care of the family. This meant making sure everyone was safe and had everything they needed. It also involved keeping a strong balance between work and family life.

Mike Russell: Transgender not in alignment with God's will

On Feb. 28, 2025, a column written by the Rev. Dr. Kristopher Schondelmeyer, appeared in the Dispatch-Argus. His column was concerning Iowa House Bill 242 and “its harmful implications for transgender individuals in our state.” The assigned title to the article was “Scripture teaches us identity is not static.” To that point I do not disagree, but I find Dr. Schondelmeyer’s interpretation and reference to specific Scriptures flawed. I do agree with a couple of points.
