SARATOGA SPRINGS — Tommy Trotta and his partner Damien Boland were hell-bent on making it to Saratoga under the cover of night. It was early one evening in September 2013, just a week or so after the final stretch of the thoroughbred-racing season, and they had work — crime, really — on their minds. For weeks, the career thieves, friends since childhood, had been casing their next big target – the National Museum of Racing on Union Avenue.
