The Continuity and Rupture of the ‘New Washington Consensus’: From Biden to Trump 2.0
Governments should pursue carefully calibrated industrial policies to strengthen strategic sectors and supply chains, but avoid WTO-incompatible design, such as local content requirements, that undermines competition, raises costs and fragments global trade. Export controls and investment screening should be limited to genuinely sensitive technologies with transparent criteria and regular review.
Experiment automation agents: automating materials characterization with vision language model agents
Abstract We present Experiment Automation Agents (EAA), a vision-language-model-driven agentic system designed to automate complex experimental microscopy workflows. Serum physiology, fecal microbiota, and metabolome signatures associated with perinatal stage transitions in Mongolian mares
Abstract Introduction: Lactation is a critical reproductive trait that influences offspring survival and livestock productivity in equine production. Characterizing physiological transitions during the perinatal period can improve our understanding of how mares adapt to late gestation, parturition, and early lactation.
Spatiotemporal mapping of CD112 unveils its dichotomous role in T-cell exhaustion and ferroptosis crosstalk in cervical cancer

Demonstration of an AI-driven workflow for dynamic x-ray spectroscopy - npj Computational Materials
Abstract X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy is a powerful technique for characterizing the chemical state and symmetry of individual elements within materials, but requires collecting data at many energy points which can be time-consuming. While adaptive sampling methods exist for efficiently collecting spectroscopic data, they often lack domain-specific knowledge about the structure of XANES spectra.
ZmSSRP1, transactivated by OPAQUE11, positively regulates starch biosynthesis in maize endosperm
Introduction Maize (Zea mays L.) is a global staple crop, providing a major resource of metabolizable energy for humans and livestock and industrial raw material. Starch, the major storage carbohydrate in the maize kernel, comprising about 75% of the dry endosperm matter, directly influences maize quality and yield (Liu et al., 2016). In the normal maize endosperm, starch is structurally composed of ~25% linear amylose and ~75% branched amylopectin (Nelson and Pan, 1995).
Associations of biological aging with the morbidity and all-cause mortality of patients with lung cancer - Scientific Reports
Abstract Accelerated biological aging has been suggested to be an important risk factor for age-related diseases, but its role in the development of lung cancer is still unclear. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between biological aging and lung cancer and its impact on mortality using the NHANES database.

Vision-language transformer models play a pivotal role in e-commerce product search. When using product description (e.g. product title) and product image pairs to train such models, there are often non-visual-descriptive text attributes in the product description, which makes the visual textual alignment challenging. We introduce MultiModal Learning with online Token Pruning (MML-TP).

An 18F‐FDG‐PET/CT‐based radiomics signature for estimating malignance probability of solitary pulmonary nodule
1 INTRODUCTION Solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) are defined as a single nodule with a diameter <3 cm, round or oval shadows, clear or unclear boundaries, completely surrounded by normal lung parenchyma, and accompanied by no other abnormalities in the lung.1 While the majority are benign, around 35% are primary malignant tumors.2 When SPNs constitute the early manifestation of lung cancer, timely detection and appropriate treatment produces the highest cure rate, resulting in a 5-year...
De-noised vision-language fusion guided by visual cues for e-commerce product search
In e-commerce applications, vision-language multimodal transformer models play a pivotal role in product search. The key to successfully training a multimodal model lies in the alignment quality of image-text pairs in the dataset. However, the data in practice is often automatically collected with minimal manual intervention. Hence the alignment of image-text pairs is far from ideal.

How Chinese companies are challenging national security decisions that could delay 5G network rollout
British prime minister Rishi Sunak recently declared that the “golden era” of UK-China relations is over. The next day, the government removed China General Nuclear Power Group, a Chinese state-owned company, from the construction of the UK’s Sizewell C nuclear power station. Other countries have made similar moves in recent years. In 2020, for example, then-US president Donald Trump attempted to ban social media platform TikTok in the US.

Origin and regulation of oxygen redox instability in high-voltage battery cathodes - Nature Energy
Abstract Oxygen redox at high voltage has emerged as a transformative paradigm for high-energy battery cathodes such as layered transition-metal oxides by offering extra capacity beyond conventional transition-metal redox. However, these cathodes suffer from voltage hysteresis, voltage fade and capacity drop upon cycling. Single-crystalline cathodes have recently shown some improvements, but these challenges remain.

Mechanism of enhancing the water-solubility and stability of curcumin by self-assembled cod protein nanoparticles at alkaline pH
Mechanism of enhancing the water-solubility and stability of curcumin by self-assembled cod protein nanoparticles at alkaline pH Curcumin (Cur) is a bioactive phytochemical claimed to have several health-promoting benefits, whose applications are challenged due to its poor water-solubility, chemical instability, and low bioavailability. In this research, the Cur was encapsulated into cod protein (CP) using a pH-driven method to enhance solubility and stability.
A small molecule that induces translational readthrough of CFTR nonsense mutations by eRF1 depletion - Nature Communications
Abstract Premature termination codons (PTCs) prevent translation of a full-length protein and trigger nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). Nonsense suppression (also termed readthrough) therapy restores protein function by selectively suppressing translation termination at PTCs. Poor efficacy of current readthrough agents prompted us to search for better compounds. An NMD-sensitive NanoLuc readthrough reporter was used to screen 771,345 compounds.

Three dimensions, two microscopes, one code: Automatic differentiation for x-ray nanotomography beyond the depth of focus limit
Abstract Conventional tomographic reconstruction algorithms assume that one has obtained pure projection images, involving no within-specimen diffraction effects nor multiple scattering. Advances in x-ray nanotomography are leading toward the violation of these assumptions, by combining the high penetration power of x-rays, which enables thick specimens to be imaged, with improved spatial resolution that decreases the depth of focus of the imaging system.
