The annual flu vaccine is like a software update for the immune system, a Rochester Institute of Technology expert in biochemistry and microbiology says. Each year, scientists monitor the changes in the various influenza viruses as it pertains to mutations and update the vaccine to better match the viruses expected to circulate, said Andre Hudson, dean of RIT’s College of Science. Vaccination gives the immune system a preview and an updated picture of what it may encounter.

Hands-on educational experience is key to future innovation, and students in Rochester Institute of Technology’s Freshman Imaging Project receive it as soon as they step foot on campus. Recognizing the importance of hands-on learning, alumnus Ricardo Motta has created the Ricardo J. Motta Endowed Fund for RIT’s Freshman Imaging Project. The gift will help enhance student experiences including providing them with essential equipment and supplies. The class, offered in the Chester F.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s decades-long partnership with the federal Landsat program will continue with a $2.2 million grant from NASA. Landsat is a NASA/USGS program that began in 1972 and provides the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s land in existence.
