Motivated Clone

My nutritionist wouldn’t necessarily endorse this title, but she’s also human. I mean, isn't everyone eating their feelings just a little? The world is such a mess, and it’s getting harder and harder to find the good. But food, especially when shared with family and friends, is very good. These days, after I’m done staring off into space in disbelief, I’ve found myself retreating to recipe sites, to the grocery store, and to the kitchen.

I am the first person to place more importance than necessary on what I do. Not because I think my contributions are so significant, but because I’ve always taken pride in my work. I was never comfortable doing things half-assed, letting people down, or phoning it in, though I now strive to do less every day. Type A, first-born daughter energy is a trap. Most people would consider having high standards a strength – integrity! diligence! – but giving one’s all ALL OF THE TIME is fucking exhausting.

Even though the temps are still hovering well above 90 here in LA, I’m determined to start enjoying fall. Some people want Christmas year-round; I want crisp mornings, crunching leaves, and cozy clothes 24/7/365. On that note, I’ve put together a slightly random but very purposeful list of 17 things that I’m buying, using, and highly recommending right now.
