What was your first job as a journalist?

Artvoice, published my photo essay column for 13 years: 1990 until I went to Parsons. I covered art events/politics/concerts, everything.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Absolutely – manual, and The IBM Selectric.

How is social media changing news?

It's a good aggregator of news sites for those who may not subscribe directly.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Hildy Johnson, fast-talking newspaper gal Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday, directed by Howard Hawks.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Telling an unbiased story in an artful manner sans grandstanding and on deadline.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Nikon line, Apple line, Lightroom, PhotoShop, Word, DaVinci Resolve.

What's your favorite social network?

Solid, in-person conversation.

Who do you wish followed you?

All of the bandmates of The National.

Why did you become a journalist?

I was born one.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes. Photos and words, same as always.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Interviewing seven healthcare professionals about how they pivoted to work with CV-19 patients.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep on writing.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time.

What's your favorite drink?

50% my own dark roast coffee and 50% organic, almond-coconut milk.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At a camera.

That it's all fun and games.
