San Francisco saw its lowest overdose-death numbers since 2020 in the past two months, according to preliminary data released by the medical examiner’s office on Tuesday. The 34 deaths in April and 35 in May were the lowest since the city medical examiner began releasing monthly overdose death reports in January 2020. Previously, the month with the lowest deaths on record, 35, was October 2025. Last month marked a nearly 40% decrease in the number of deaths from May 2025.
