While pricey in terms of mana, these mighty beasts pack power in proportion, and are often capable of turning the tides of games single-handed. With 33 years of support available, there’s no shortage of Dragons to pick from for your MTG Commander decks, but these are the ones we believe are the best of the best.

Though it seems like a passive strategy on the surface, Lifegain is a legitimately powerful archetype in Commander. Using the right payoffs, these decks can wipe out pods with surprising speed, betraying their benevolent stylings. Though the archetype seems simple, picking up Lifegain can be tricky due to the sheer number of Commander options available to it. Spellslinger decks, or those that aim to cast a ton of noncreature spells for profit, are incredibly popular in Commander, and for good reason. The archetype provides the exciting, game-action-rich turns of Combo decks, but with less deterministic, more skill-dependent outcomes.
