The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is launching a new lifeguard and instructor training program for youth after receiving a grant. The grant from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is allowing the YMCA the offer the Waves of Opportunity program, a 16-week lifeguard and instructor training program for youth between the ages of 13 and 25. The program is designed to remove financial and systemic barriers for those who are challenged in accessing sport-based employment and leadership opportunities.

Meaford is looking into the development of tiny homes in the municipality to address housing needs. Council approved a motion from Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney directing staff to begin a land disposal process during a meeting on Monday, which would result in a request to allow for the expedited approval of tiny homes. Keaveney’s motion says Meaford, like many other communities, is trying to provide a variety of housing types for residents.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is getting ready to wake up Wiarton Willie to receive the groundhog’s annual prediction. Manager of Economic Development and Corporate Communications Danielle Edwards says ahead of Mayor Jay Kirkland conferring with Willie on Feb. 2, the town has a full weekend of fun lined up. The festivities get underway on Friday with the Wiarton Willie Hockey Tournament as well as a free public skate from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Wiarton Arena.
