PURPOSE: Patients often have basic audiometry (BA) but not objective diagnostic tests of the vestibular system (VNG) when complaining of symptoms of a vestibular disorder. The relationship of BA results to VNG results is unknown. This study sought to determine if BA scores are related to impaired VNG scores. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed electronic medical records at a tertiary care center, for patients seen between 2015 and 2021 who had had both a BA and a VNG (n = 651).

Between The Temples (Featuring Lex Rofeberg)
On the 395th episode of Piecing It Together, Rabbi Lex Rofeberg joins me to talk about Between The Temples. The Stranger and the Fog Restoration Trailer Brings Lost Iranian Classic to Light
Emerging from a long haze, Bahrām Beyzaie’s The Stranger and the Fog caught the right people’s eye when it appeared at last year’s New York Film Festival through a restoration overseen by the Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project and Cineteca di Bologna in collaboration with the director himself.

Locarno Review: Foul Evil Deeds Is a Very British Anthology of Wrongdoing
Indiewire having encouraged us to reminisce about the 2000s through its recent Best of the Decade list, there’s the reminder of one key thread defining that era: the prominence of digital video and the prescient idea that it would alter filmmaking on all budget levels going forward.
LAIKA Studios Returns in First Teaser for Travis Knight’s Wildwood
With the current re-release of Henry Selick’s Coraline netting a rather staggering $11.3 million at the U.S. box office, LAIKA is back in the conversation. The Oregon-based animation studio isn’t just hanging on its laurels, however, as they are in production on their next feature Wildwood, which is set for a release in 2025, marking the longest break they’ve had between features as it’s been six years since 2019’s Missing Link.

Locarno Review: Transamazonia Hypnotically Finds Healing and Spirituality in the Jungle
Pia Marais’ Transamazonia seeks to connect us to its characters and the environment containing them, but we leave the film far more imprinted by the latter. The fourth feature by the South African-born and -raised filmmaker (but whose work feels truly, fittingly transnational), she aims to create an emotionally involving story, with rooting interests for sympathetic individual and collective groups––here, the indigenous Assurini people of Trocará, Brazil.

Reframing social media discourse following the FDA’s menthol ban announcement as industry agenda setting rather than public sentiment
Abstract Background The tobacco industry has spent millions of dollars promoting racialised narratives against the US Food and Drug Administration’s recently announced ban on menthol as a characterising cigarette flavour. This research investigates racialised narratives in online discourse following the ban’s announcement.

BFI London Review: Robin Campillo’s Red Island is an Undeveloped Portrait of a Transitional Period for Madagascar
Robin Campillo’s strengths as both a writer and a director revolve around his ability to personalize the most sprawling of ensemble pieces, never allowing viewers to get lost despite the dozens of characters his stories introduce. Following his prior film BPM, among the finest of the past decade, he has returned with another work that, while rooted in autobiography, has no interest in merely bringing his own formative memories to the screen.
BFI London Review: The Hypnosis is a Toni Erdmann-Esque Cringe Comedy Skewering Corporate Culture
Toni Erdmann wasn’t the first film to skewer corporate culture, but the epic-length comedy struck a chord with many for how it used a fish-out-of-water conceit to rupture the rigid, dehumanizing nature of that world.

Fantasia Review: Zach Clark’s The Becomers is a Comically Warped Satire
As the narrator (Sparks’ Russell Mael) tells his story of star-crossed love many moons away, we watch as violence (awkwardly comical, violent all the same) is wrought upon random, unsuspecting souls. Is the brightly lit, eye-holed entity taking over these bodies the same character as the disembodied voice we hear? Maybe. Hopefully. Why? Because that would mean it isn’t acting out of aggression.
A Carbon-Neutral Energy Plan for the United Kingdom: Wave Power
A Carbon-Neutral Energy Plan for the United Kingdom: Wave Power In February, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, London-based architect and author Nathan Silver submitted a remarkably detailed plan to convert the United Kingdom to carbon neutral energy production. He wrote to Dominic Cummings, a chief advisor to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Wave Hello to a Low-Cost Renewable Energy Advancement
Recent unforeseen and costly energy supply shortages have been an unpleasant surprise for Europeans, and they have spooked some of us enough to increase demands for more fossil fuel pipelines and tanker shipments. Of course, that’s exactly what the heinous carbon merchants are hoping for. But there is a much better way to go.

Moviemaker Melee: Joel Potrykus and Nathan Silver Debate the Pros of Cons of Big City and Small Town Moviemaking
Should you live and work in a big city or a small town? Should you stick close to your native geography, or build a new creative home elsewhere? We invited two indie moviemakers—Relaxer writer-director Joel Potrykus and Watch Me Drown writer-director Nathan Silver—to debate the pros and cons. Joel Potrykus (JP): Michigan is the only place where I know how to make movies. I couldn’t do it in any other place. In all the other cities I lived in, it was totally impossible.

Why the Online Safety Bill doesn't go far enough
Cambridge University law student Nathan Silver assesses the limitations of the new draft legislation In the aftermath of the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy, three young Black footballers — Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka — received appalling online racial abuse. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. While online abuse has been a problem since the internet was created, it seems to have intensified recently, with Black footballers often the victims.

Review: Fiction and Nonfiction Blur in ‘Actor Martinez’
“Acting is weird,” says the actor Arthur Martinez, playing an actor named Arthur, in Mike Ott and Nathan Silver’s metanovelty “Actor Martinez.” “Is it?” asks his co-star Lindsay Burdge as an actress and love interest named Lindsay. Arthur seems to regret those words as “Actor Martinez” — about the making of a loose semidocumentary focused on the title character — progresses.
