Business leaders need to break current habits to drive true change
By Neil Bradbrook, above, Director, Ahead Business Consulting (ABC) Most businesses aspire for growth. But how we achieve growth continually changes as a business scales up. In the early days, growth can simply mean there’s more work on the books now than there was in the previous quarter or year. When you start to transition from a small business to a medium enterprise, other aspects of the business such as staff, skills, productivity and efficiency become much more critical to delivering success.

Article by: NEIL BRADBROOK, MANAGING DIRECTOR, AHEAD BUSINESS CONSULTING | Published: 9 February 2022 NEIL BRADBROOK, MANAGING DIRECTOR, AHEAD BUSINESS CONSULTING 20 January 2022 MY BUSINESS PARTNER AND I COME FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND THAT HELPS WHEN WE MAKE BUSINESS DECISIONS. WE CHALLENGE ONE ANOTHER CONSTANTLY BY STIMULATING NEW THOUGHT AND DEBATE AND OUR BEST WORK IS WHEN WE HAVE BOTH CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROCESS, WHICH ALWAYS CREATES SOMETHING BETTER THAN EITHER OF US COULD DO ALONE.
Four-day working weeks: are they the future?
Neil Bradbrook By Neil Bradbrook, MD of Ahead Business Consulting A couple of weeks ago, Atom Bank announced that their staff were moving to a four-day working week with no loss of pay. Sounds great – but is it really? Well – yes and no. It is a good step – but only a step – in the right direction. It is good, because it shows Atom Bank are thinking about their employees’ needs and are willing to make bold changes to address them. And four-day working weeks are great for many staff.
A tasty bit of advice: Why all businesses should think more about PIES
By Neil Bradbrook, MD of Ahead Business Consulting… As a Lancashire lad, it would be strange if I were not a fan – not to say an aficionado – of pies; I remember many a happy moment munching on a steak pudding from Greenhalgh’s of Bolton. But, while I am happy to make the case for pastry, so to speak, I never realised that PIES would become such an important factor in my later business life.
Why every business needs to do something about sustainability – but planting a tree isn’t the answer — Just Entrepreneurs
As the dust settles on COP26, which rather predictably failed to fulfil hopes and promises, the obvious question is: what next? Pandemics excepted, COPs normally take place every year. COP26 was important – not because Scotland was hosting, but because it is five COPs on from Paris, where it was agreed to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees. Glasgow should have been the Action Plan; the “How”.

These 8 questions are your checklist for change By Neil Bradbrook
Benjamin Franklin famously said: “When you are finished changing, you are finished.” But when is the right time to ask for help? COVID-19, Brexit – and now a recruitment crisis – have heaped massive change on business. Some have already failed – and others may be starting to struggle as the government’s furlough scheme ends. A lot of our clients ask me: do I need to hire an expert, or should we just do this ourselves?

Businesses must learn the lessons of Euro Super League fiasco
29 April 2021 10 May 2021 The fans have prevailed and the short-lived European Super League is no more. The lure of a share in the big bucks the league promised had been strong – including splitting the €3.25bn welcome bonus paid for by JP Morgan – but all six founding English teams have turned their backs on the mooted venture. Becoming the poster-children of self-interest and corporate greed obviously proved too much to bear. But was the league really such a bad idea?

The Seven Deadly Sins Of Project Management: Optimism Bias
Project management is a key vehicle for organisations to turn strategy into action. However, despite the increasing investment in project management capability, many projects still fail to meet their objectives. In this first article in a series we explore how optimism bias can kill a project from the very start, one of the ‘seven deadly sins’, initially coined by Jeffrey Pinto in his paper ‘Lies, damned lies, and project plans’: Recurring human errors that can ruin the project planning process’.
How To Manage Remotely In The Covid World Of Work
Covid-19 has created mass uncertainty and panic. People are worried about their jobs, their health and their loved ones. Difficult times are when leaders should shine. But how do you lead remotely? The pandemic has created a whole new set of problems for employees and managers, as well as leaders. For employees, working from home will suit some better than others.
