Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a freelance contributor to the late lamented Boston Tab, a weekly.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Of course I have used a typewriter. It was a great improvement on the clay tablets we used to use.

How is social media changing news?

Social media can both enhance and pollute news, which is why I endeavor to combat 'alternative' facts with undeniable scientific truths.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

A computer, Word, camera, digital recorder. My prodigious brain.

Who do you wish followed you?

The Pulitzer selection committee.

Why did you become a journalist?

I couldn't make it as an actor, so I tried to find a profession that paid less.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was the arts editor for my high school rag, dubbed "Hawkeye" as a nod to the school's mascot.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

If your mother says she loves you, get another source.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I'm a pitcher, not a catcher.

What's your favorite drink?

Strong black coffee

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With my family.
