Abstract Coping with stress is critical to maintaining mental and physical health. Acute stress is associated with changes in neuronal activity across many brain regions and with the reorganization of cross region correlations in neurovascular coupling. How neuronal activity itself is coordinated across regions during stress, and how neuronal networks are modified during coping, are unknown.

Abstract Brightness illusions are a powerful tool in studying vision, yet their neural correlates are poorly understood. Based on a human paradigm, we presented illusory drifting gratings to mice. Primary visual cortex (V1) neurons responded to illusory gratings, matching their direction selectivity for real gratings, and they tracked the spatial phase offset between illusory and real gratings.
