Cyber Attacks Across America: A New Challenge for Modern Project Managers
Please login or join to subscribe to this thread Amari Zivai Sales Representative| Total Life Changes Michigan, United States Cybersecurity attacks on American soil have evolved into a critical threat across every sector, placing project managers squarely in the impact zone. When essential systems are compromised, whether through ransomware, data theft, or targeted strikes on infrastructure, project schedules, communication pathways, and resource allocation can unravel in moments.
Job Opportunity for minority project manager
Leonard, I think these are important questions. For hiring and promotion, I would focus on transparent, role-relevant criteria, structured and comparable assessment, and reviewing not only who is selected, but who receives the assignments, visibility and sponsorship that make future selection possible. PMI chapters can contribute through mentoring, networks, speaking and leadership opportunities.
What is the single-most effective principle in project management?
What's the single most effective principle in project management — and does it change once you separate "managing expectations" from "managing perceptions"? Most answers to this question default to stakeholder communication. I want to test a sharper distinction. Expectation management is bilateral and time-bound — you agree a scope, a timeline, a standard, and it's discharged at delivery. Perception management is different: it's continuous, comparative, and retrospective.
If project leadership is distributed, what keeps the project coherent?
Project leadership increasingly does not reside in one place. Sponsors, Project Managers, Product Owners, teams, functional leaders and governance bodies may all hold different pieces of authority, knowledge and responsibility. That distribution can improve autonomy and keep decisions closer to relevant knowledge. But the decisions themselves remain interdependent. So what keeps the project coherent when legitimate decisions are being made in different places?
If AI Can Do More of Project Management, Why Do We Still Need a Project Manager?
AI can increasingly support planning, risk analysis, monitoring, reporting, documentation, and decision preparation. At the same time, organizations are becoming more adaptive, authority is increasingly distributed, and teams are expected to operate with greater autonomy. So perhaps the real question is not which Project Management tasks AI can automate. It is: What organizational problem continues to exist even when many of those tasks no longer require a Project Manager to perform them?
Lessons from 1 Year with PMI Global: How Cross-Border Collaboration Shapes Leadership
Hi everyone! Reflecting on my first year as part of the PMI Global community, I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of cross-border collaboration. Over the past year, having the opportunity to co-work with diverse, multicultural teams across different regions has fundamentally shaped my approach to project leadership and empathetic communication. It continually reminds me that when passion and mutual respect align, time zones and cultural borders truly disappear.
Analyzing the Strategic Execution Translation Problem
73–77% of senior leaders said they were positively influencing project cost, planning and schedule performance. Only 13% of frontline workers said leadership decisions consistently shaped their daily work. Those numbers came from a recent Accenture study of 1,050 capital-project leaders and frontline workers. --That gap caught my attention.-- Because I think we often describe the strategy-execution gap as a one-way problem: - Can leadership translate strategy into clear priorities?
Is good risk management more like driving than maintaining a risk register?
If you have ever driven in an Indian city during rush hour, you may already understand proactive risk management better than you realize. An experienced driver does not focus only on the vehicle immediately ahead. They notice a two-wheeler entering the edge of their vision, a pedestrian whose posture suggests they may step onto the road, or an autorickshaw changing its angle before beginning to cross a lane. The driver does not wait for the hazard to become an incident.

How can leaders ensure that Agile transformations remain transparent and ethically grounded?
Although most Agile frameworks emerged from software development practices, over the last decade, “Agile” has become a discussion topic and even a target state in many organisations. From boardrooms to project kick-offs, organizations are eager to embrace Agility because it promises faster delivery, adaptability, and happier teams.
Will AI-Enhanced Agile Become the Standard Project Management Model by 2030?
Please login or join to subscribe to this thread Amari Zivai Sales Representative| Total Life Changes Michigan, United States Agile project management continues to advance rather than fade. Which project management challenge deserves much more attention?
Hello everyone, I would like to learn from experienced project professionals. Every project faces challenges, but some important issues still seem to receive very little attention. In your opinion, which project management challenge deserves much more attention, and why? If this challenge were solved, how would it improve projects or organizations? I would really appreciate hearing about your own experiences. Thank you.
How do PMs influence decisions when data alone is not persuasive?
I agree that raw numbers let a poor decision-making culture off the hook. I recommend a framework that forces alignment, authority, and accountability. Whatever decision (or decision bundle) you want alignment, agree that the work is worth documenting. Then govern the work with verbs that force the team to document the collaboration. Draft. Default Duration = 1 Day. Assigned to A. Review & Revise. Default Duration = 1 Day. Assigned to B, C, D, E, F, and G. Approve. Default Duration = 1 Day. Assigned to H.
How do PMs operate in organizations shifting from projects to product models?
I welcome exploring this, but I'd love to clarify the problem(s) you are trying to solve. Project 1 and Project 2 have time-related partitions and boundaries. Both contain a sense of closure. You see this as bad. Product 1 and Product 2 have no time-related partitions or boundaries. Products have no sense of closure. You see this as a good thing. As you can see, I'm not yet grasping the problem(s). If executives want to shape a culture of low structure, partitions, and boundaries, I'm happy to do that.
How does your team currently score risks, and what steps do you take to minimise subjectivity?
Risk management is the backbone of successful project delivery, especially in dynamic environments like Agile. Yet, one of the most persistent—and often overlooked—challenges is the subjective nature of risk scoring.
What steps would you recommend to balance the benefits of AI with the need to preserve meaningful human roles in Agile environments?
Agile methodologies have changed, some would say revolutionized, the way product teams collaborate, adapt, and deliver value. At the heart of Agile software development, and in recent years of Agile project delivery, is the belief in empowered individuals, cross-functional teams, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Why do organizations repeat mistakes despite capturing lessons learned?
I think one reason is that organizations often treat lessons learned as records of the past rather than inputs into future decisions. Capturing a lesson does not create organizational learning by itself. The real test is whether that lesson changes a decision rule, a planning assumption, a risk trigger, a governance threshold, a checklist, or the context available to the next team facing a similar situation. Otherwise, the organization may remember what happened without changing how it decides.

Please login or join to subscribe to this thread Srikana Ray Community Champion IT Project Manager In fast-paced project environments, traditional, slow-moving change control boards can block progress. However, bypassing them leads to misalignment and team conflict over shifting priorities. I would like to learn how project managers handle these conflicts and maintain speed of project delivery while keeping stakeholders aligned.
Can a Project Succeed Because of Bad Decisions?
At first, the answer seems obvious: no. But consider this. A building project is delivered on time and within budget. To reduce upfront costs, the team eliminates some energy-efficiency measures, selects lower-cost systems, and postpones investments in long-term resilience. At handover, everyone is satisfied. According to traditional project metrics, the project is a success.
For what type of PMO activities are you using GenAI ?
Natacha, Great question! In my experience, the most useful GenAI applications in PMO and portfolio management are not necessarily about “automating portfolio decisions.” They are more often about improving the quality, speed, and consistency of the information that supports those decisions. A few areas where I see practical value: a.
Agile Project Management
An excellent summary of both approaches. In practice, the most important distinction is not whether a project uses Agile or Predictive methods. It is whether the chosen approach matches the level of uncertainty the team is facing. Predictive approaches perform well when requirements, scope, and constraints are relatively stable. Agile approaches excel when learning, adaptation, and rapid feedback are critical.
Conversations in Construction: Leadership Under the Desert Sun
When we talk about project management in the Oil & Gas sector, we often focus on the macro: supply chain logistics, modular fabrication delays, and capital expenditures,But on the front lines of construction in extreme heat climates, the most critical conversations happen at the micro-level—where human endurance meets heavy engineering. In these brutal environments, managing a project isn't just about hitting a milestone; it’s about managing the physics of the environment and the safety of the...
PMP EXAM - formula- and calculation-based questions
I would be careful not to frame PMP preparation as a choice between formula-based questions and situational questions. Project management has always required both analytical capability and professional judgment. While EVM metrics such as CPI, SPI, CV, SV, and EAC are often the most discussed calculations, they are not the only quantitative concepts candidates should understand.
Are we managing AI, or is AI managing us?
Interesting question. The Excitement: The AI capability I'm most excited about isn't automated status reporting or meeting summaries. Those save time, but they're incremental improvements. What interests me most is AI's ability to synthesize information across systems, teams, and workstreams to surface signals that might otherwise remain fragmented. In large organizations, the challenge is often not a lack of data but a lack of visibility.

What does safe transparency look like in your team?
Please login or join to subscribe to this thread Agile Ethics Scrum Stelian ROMAN Project Manager| MicroSafety Carlingford, New South Wales, Australia Agile methodologies champion transparency: daily stand-ups, open retrospectives, and visible metrics are core practices that keep teams aligned and projects on track. But in the quest for openness, a delicate tension emerges—one that can affect trust, morale, and even the ethical foundation of team culture.
How can global PMs reconcile cultural differences in sustainability standards?
One of the biggest misconceptions in global sustainability initiatives is believing that shared standards automatically create shared meaning. They do not. Frameworks such as GRI, CSRD, ISSB, the UN SDGs, or GPM P5 can provide a common reference language. But interpretation, priorities, acceptable trade-offs, and implementation behaviors still vary significantly across cultures, industries, regulatory environments, and local realities.

How do you handle unknown risks during project execution?
In complex project environments, even with structured risk management practices, there are instances where risks emerge that were not identified during initial project planning. Assuming that the contingency reserves (time and cost) have already been incorporated, as a project manager how do you approach the identification, assessment and management of truly uncertain or unforeseen risks “unknown unknowns” during project execution?
Sustainability Is Not a Checkbox: It Is a Project Leadership Practice
Project managers are being asked to do more than deliver on scope, schedule, and budget. They are being asked to lead in a world where resource constraints, stakeholder expectations, workforce well-being, social legitimacy, and long-term value are no longer side conversations. They are now part of the work itself.

Should organizations create an “AI charter” defining acceptable project uses and boundaries?
I think a charter can be helpful — but only to a point. The real issue isn’t the absence of guidelines. It’s how decisions get made when those guidelines meet real-world ambiguity. Most AI use cases won’t sit cleanly inside predefined boundaries. They’ll involve trade-offs: • speed vs. risk • innovation vs. compliance • local efficiency vs. enterprise impact A charter can define principles, but it can’t resolve those trade-offs in practice.
Beyond the Critical Path: Why Projects Need an Execution Perspective
Beyond the Critical Path: Why Projects Need an Execution Perspective By Dariusz Wołejszo & David Wallach Anyone who has spent time in serious project planning meetings will recognise a particular moment. The schedule is on the screen. The team is reviewing activities one by one. Engineers, construction managers, planners, operations representatives and project managers are gathered around the table, discussing how the project will unfold. At first, everything looks fine. The logic flows correctly.
Leadership & Ethics Scenario
Thank you for raising this scenario. It is not merely about credit. It is about power asymmetry, responsibility and the integrity of the value system within the project. In such a situation, a Project Manager should interpret the episode as a governance signal. When a manager with strong stakeholder influence presents a team member’s idea as their own, the risk extends beyond individual unfairness.

Messages on switching careers to project management
Hi Sey, welcome and great question. You are actually coming from a stronger background than you might think. Many people assume project managers only come from engineering or business. In reality, some of the most effective PMs come from music, teaching, or creative fields. Project management is fundamentally about coordination, timing, communication, and delivering outcomes under constraints. Those are skills musicians practice constantly.
Messages on Project management always in movement !
I’ve observed the same pattern repeatedly. Project management often becomes more visible during reorganizations or leadership transitions, especially when organizations are seeking structure, reassurance, and a sense of control. What stands out to me is that this attention is frequently reactive. Project management is mobilized to address uncertainty, yet the deeper elements of governance, decision authority, and leadership accountability are not always addressed with the same rigor.
Messages on Manage expectations
Managing client expectations during software implementations is one of the most critical challenges consultants face. Misalignment often stems from two common sources: overselling by the sales team or the client's incomplete understanding of how the software actually functions. When either occurs, a gap emerges between what the client expects and what the system can deliver—creating potential project failures waiting to happen.

Messages on Communicating with contractors in fast-moving AI projects
In fast-moving AI projects, clarity does not come from fixed answers but from disciplined transparency. What has worked well for me is being explicit about what is stable versus what is still exploratory. Saying “this is the current direction, and it may evolve” builds more trust than pretending certainty where it does not exist. Second, I avoid long-range commitments and instead align on short, time-boxed objectives.

Messages on Project Scope Requirement
Michael, agree with Kiron, I use charters merely to assign authority to the PM from the sponsor for a given project. It could be a one-pager; the project can be identified by a number or name. Yes, some say that a charter should include much more, including the PMBoK Guide, and for small projects with small changes, that works. Parameters that are known at the point of initiating a project are often documented in a business case, contract, or other artifacts.

Messages on What are your thoughts about the changes in the new PMP exam which launches in July?
Kiron The new PMP exam moves in the right direction, more value, more agility, more business acumen, and more realistic question formats. But it still overlooks the most essential capability for the future of our profession: ethical decision-making. Given PMI’s recent reinforcement of its four ethics documents, it is striking that the new ECO does not define a minimum percentage of ethics questions.
Messages on BJ Fogg Behavioral Model
I recently came across the BJ Fogg Behavioral Model, and was surprised by how the model is helpful in project environments. The model breaks behaviour down into three elements: motivation, ability, and prompts, and suggests that people adopt new behaviours only when all three align. Behaviour = Motivation + Ability + Prompts https://www.behaviormodel.org/ In project management, we often focus on motivation and communication.
Messages on PMO Best Practice
There’s no universal best practice for changing a decentralized PMO. The key is to focus on strategic coherence, not just structure. Three things help every time: Clarify what decisions must be centralized vs. local. Create a light, shared governance layer (reporting, risks, dependencies, portfolio). Use benchmarking only as inspiration the target model must fit your culture and strategy. In short: don’t copy a PMO model; design the one that serves your organization’s purpose.
Messages on Program manager role vs. reality: how would you handle this?
