The Giants have released Victor Cruz
Victor Cruz's remarkable, storybook career with the Giants, which included several enthralling chapters along the way, was officially closed on Monday when he was released by the only NFL team he's ever known. The move was hardly unexpected for the 30-year-old receiver, but surely painful nonetheless, even inside the Giants organization where he had long been one of the most popular players.
Giants lose two members of front office, coaching staff to 49ers
As John Lynch, the new GM of the San Francisco 49ers, and his new coach, Kyle Shanahan begin assembling their staffs, they have plucked two pieces off of the Giants. Martin Mayhew will be leaving the Giants' front office to become a senior personnel executive in San Francisco, Lynch announced on Thursday. And Jeff Zgonina, who spent last year as the Giants' assistant defensive line coach, reportedly is leaving to become the defensive line coach on Shanahan's staff.
Giants waive linebacker Uani 'Unga
Uani 'Unga, who came out of nowhere to briefly become the Giants starting middle linebacker in 2015, officially became an ex-Giant on Wednesday when he was waived after a lost year. The 29-year-old 'Unga was waived with a "failed physical" designation after spending the entire 2016 season on injured reserve. He was placed on the list after he was waived/injured in May following the team's rookie mini-camp. His injury was never disclosed.
Giants agree to two-year extension with Steve Spagnuolo
The Giants didn't just rebuild their team last season, they also helped rebuild Steve Spagnuolo's career. The popular defensive coordinator, whose prior two years on the job were historically bad (with the Giants in 2015 and the Saints in 2012), earned rave reviews for the way he helped revive the Giants' defense last season. And as a result, the Giants gave him a two-year contract extension, according to a league source, to ensure he'd be back for more.
Jets sign free agent Jeff Adams
New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles confirmed he knew former offensive coordinator Chan Gailey would be retiring after two seasons and said he has a general idea of who will replace him. "I knew when I hired him he was doing two years," Bowles said, according to NJ.com's Darryl Slater. "We talked about it.
Jets add four coaches to 2017 staff
The Jets have added four coaches to their staff for the 2017 season, hiring Jeremy Bates (quarterbacks coach), Mick Lombardi (assistant quarterbacks coach), Jason Vrable (offensive assistant) and Joe Giacobbe (strength and conditioning assistant), the team announced on Wednedsay. Bates held the same position with the Jets in 2005 under then-head coach Herm Edwards. He was the Chicago Bears QBs coach in 2012 but was not retained and has been out of the NFL since.

Among the Jets' AFC East rivals, the Patriots -- at 5/1 -- have the best odds in the NFL. The Dolphins have 50/1 odds, while the Bills opened at 66/1. The Patriots have the best odds at 5/1, with the Browns and 49ers (both 150/1) having the worst. The Giants finished 11-5 this past season and lost to the Packers in the wild card round of the playoffs in Green Bay.
GEICO SportsNite: A Super Bowl for the ages
Giants S Landon Collins and DT Damon Harrison were both named in Pro Football Focus' 2016 NFL Season Award Winners, PFF announced on Tuesday. Collins was awarded Breakout Player of the Year, finishing with a PFF grade of 92.1, beating out Atlanta's Vic Beasley and Houston's A.J. Bouye.
Jets LB Lee says he's OK following incident at Ohio bar
Darron Lee, the New York Jets' promising young linebacker and their first-round pick in last year's draft, says he is OK after being attacked in a bar in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday night. The 22-year-old explained the incident in some detail on Monday in a video posted to his Twitter account, in which he showed off a bruise under his right eye and what he said were "bumps all around my head." He insisted he was attacked without provocation and he had no idea by whom.
Raiders' Mack voted NFL Defensive Player of the Year ahead of Collins
Landon Collins' second season in the NFL vaulted him to a status among the league's elite defenders. But he fell just short of winning the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year award. Collins, 23, was a finalist for the award that went to Khalil Mack, the linebacker/defensive end for the Oakland Raiders, at the NFL Honors ceremony in Houston on Saturday night. Mack had 11 sacks, an interception, three passes defensed and five forced fumbles during the season.
Manning shares NFL Man of the Year award with Fitzgerald
Eli Manning's value to the Giants has always gone beyond just football. It's also been about his leadership, his professionalism, and all his charity work behind the scenes. On Saturday night, Manning was finally honored for all his good off-field work when he was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. He actually shared the award with Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, became the first Giants player in the 47-year history of the award to win it.
Giants have provided blueprint for how to beat Patriots in Super Bowl
It was eight years ago today, Friday, that the Giants pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history and knocked off the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Then, four years and two days later in Super Bowl XLVI, the Giants did it to the Patriots again. The Patriots are now in their seventh Super Bowl in the 16 seasons of the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady Era of dominance. They've won four of their first six. Their only two losses have come to the Giants.
Super Bowl LI Preview: Patriots or Falcons?
Player to watch: Falcons QB Matt Ryan. One way or another, it's going to come down to this: Can Ryan, untested on this stage, out-play Tom Brady and make the big play in the big spot, probably in the fourth quarter. Yes, there have been exceptions, but it almost always comes down to quarterback play in the Super Bowl, especially in the modern, pass-happy era. It's been that way in just about every Super Bowl the Patriots have played in. Just ask Eli Manning, who twice showed Brady how it was done.
Marshall upbeat about Petty and Hackenberg
A year after lobbying the Jets to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall may be "retired" from offering his quarterback suggestions, but that doesn't mean he won't offer his thoughts on the Jets quarterbacks. And when it comes to the two young ones on the current roster, the veteran receiver apparently likes what he's seen.
Jets hire Stump Mitchell as running backs coach
Head coach Todd Bowles turned to an old friend to help fill out his coaching staff when he hired former Arizona Cardinals assistant Stump Mitchell to be the Jets' new running backs coach on Wednesday. Bowles and Mitchell worked together in 2013-14, when Bowles was the defensive coordinator on Bruce Arians' staff in Arizona. The 57-year-old Mitchell helped develop David Johnson into a dual-threat star in Arizona.
Marshall says he'll be a top-five receiver next season
Brandon Marshall's numbers took a big dip last season and, at age 32, it looked like the beginning of a late-career decline. But the Jets receiver apparently doesn't agree with that sentiment. In fact, he guarantees that next season, at age 33, he'll be right back up at the top of the charts. Marshall vowed that he will be a "top-five" receiver again while making an appearance on ESPN's First Take during Super Bowl hype week in Houston on Wednesday.
Jets find new offensive coordinator in Morton, QB remains a mystery
The New York Jets found a big piece to their offensive puzzle when they finally hired an offensive coordinator on Tuesday. But nothing they do really matters until they find a quarterback -- which remains the biggest piece of all. That piece is going to be the real key to the success of John Morton, whom the Jets hired as offensive coordinator. Morton has never been a coordinator in the NFL, though he held that position at USC from 2009 to 2010.
Jets to hire Saints' Morton as offensive coordinator
The Jets will hire Saints wide receiver coach John Morton as their new offensive coordinator, a source told SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Last week, Ralph Vacchiano had Morton as one of the candidates for the position. Ralph's take: John Morton - The 47-year-old's only experience as an offensive coordinator was at USC.
GEICO SportsNite: Chad Pennington talks need for franchise quarterback
Ralph Vacchiano, SNY.tv Jets fans clamoring for Woody Johnson to give up control of the Jets may finally get their wish, but even with him planning to spend the next three years an ocean away, his departure is unlikely to have any tangible effect on the team. The 69-year-old Johnson was officially named the United States ambassador to the United Kingdom by President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday afternoon.
Keep him or Dump him: Shane Vereen
Shane Vereen was touted as more than just a running back when he signed a three-year, $12.35 million contract with the Giants prior to the 2015 season. They felt they were getting a weapon - someone who could be a versatile runner, a receiver out of the backfield, and even a deep threat who could be split wide. Thought it wasn't all his fault, his explosive potential never really materialized. In 2015 he totaled just 754 yards.
Giants don't need to rush to find Manning's replacement
The clock is winding down on Eli Manning's career, though no one knows how quickly. It's probably safe to assume that Manning doesn't have more than three seasons left as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants. Maybe. But even if that's true, that still doesn't mean the Giants have to start looking for his replacement. At least not right now.
