I currently specialize in developmental editing as associate editor at American Scientist magazine, where I also write articles and news briefs. I have won multiple editing awards for my work, including the 2025 Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Technical/Scientific Content for "Gliflozins for Diabetes" and the 2025 APEX Grand Award for "Estuaries Face a Stormy Future."

Prior to that, I worked as the senior field correspondent for science, health, innovation and technology at KJZZ News public media in Phoenix, where I wrote, edited, voiced and produced spot news and feature stories for local and national radio, print and digital media. I have won multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards for Excellence in Writing for my series on topics such as sex and medicine and coronavirus's impacts on science, medicine and society.

As an independent journalist and science writer, I have more than 16 years of experience in making science accessible and fun for diverse audiences. I specialize in summarizing and translating journal articles, but my real passion is for instilling enthusiasm for science and nature by explaining everyday mysteries.

I have a strong background in earth and space sciences, emerging and cutting-edge technologies, psychology and neurosciences, and academic and nonprofit sectors. I enjoy working with and learning from talented people while making a valuable contribution to a worthwhile endeavor.

I also have strong backgrounds in public and media relations, and have taught colloquia on science history and critical film theory.
