When it's not personal but positional: The upside of CEO power
1 INTRODUCTION The chief executive officer (CEO), the firm's ultimate decision-maker, uses his or her executive powers in ways that affect the firm's management and, consequently, performance. There are two contrasting perspectives on how that power is used. The agency theory perspective is that unconstrained powerful CEOs use their power to make wealth-destroying corporate investments and/or further their personal objectives.

The upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 is a big and exciting opportunity for our team. We have played in four T20 World Cups but in the last three, we have not played so well and have not been able to record a win. This time, we are determined to make sure we break that record, get some momentum going and show the world what we can do. We have been preparing for a couple of months and toured New Zealand, where we played ODI and T20 matches.

Nigar Sultana column: World Cup debut a huge opportunity for Bangladesh to show we have potential

We want to make the most of this opportunity and make it count. We have never played against England, Australia or New Zealand in ODIs, so it will be a new experience.

Your credit report is a key part of your privacy – here's how to find and check it
The Australian government encourages citizens to protect their privacy and personal information. Most of the tips provided by the Office of the Information Commissioner are pretty intuitive – know your rights, read privacy policies, use security software and more. But you might be surprised to know “check your credit report” is also on the list of recommended actions.
payday loans, consumer leases, blackmail securities and credit 'management'
From Shakespeare’s Shylock to Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge to HBO’s Tony Soprano, characters who lend out money at exorbitant interest rates are unsavoury. So what should we think of businesses that deliberately target the poorest and most vulnerable for corporate profits? There has been significant growth in the unregulated small-loan market, aimed at people likely to be in financial stress.
How Zip Pay works, and why the extra cost of 'buy now, pay later' is still enticing
Zip Co’s “buy now, pay later” service is fast becoming a ubiquitous payment option in Australia. Retailers from Bunnings and Best & Less to Target and Tigerair offer it. All up, the company now boasts 10,000 retail partners and more than 850,000 customers. It’s part of the phenomenal upsurge of “buy now pay later” services. In the past three years, according to Australia’s corporate watchdog, the number of Australians using such services has jumped from 400,000 to 2 million.
What happens when companies remove expiry dates on gift cards?
From April 1 onwards, new Woolworths gift cards will no longer have an expiry date, and all gift cards sold in New South Wales will have a three-year minimum expiry date. But these policies aren’t a clear win for either consumers or retailers. Consumers will get more flexibility from the elimination of expiry dates, but the lack of urgency to use their gift cards makes it more likely that the cards will be lost or forgotten. When a retailer goes bust, the outstanding gift cards may not be honoured.
