COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — A celebration outside the Kootenai County Courthouse marked the birthdays of the United States, Idaho and the courthouse while also giving people a look at documents sealed away for 100 years. Dozens of people gathered in Coeur d'Alene for the event, where organizers unveiled records that had been kept in a courthouse time capsule since 1926. The display included printout copies so the original documents could stay preserved and intact.

Schuler family finds temporary home near Upriver Fire loss

Spokane County neighbors still cleaning up aftermath of Upriver Fire

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Families in the Northwood neighborhood are still cleaning up fire retardant roughly two weeks after the Upriver Fire. The fire claimed one life and several homes. In the days after the fire, some families said the biggest remaining problem was the retardant left across their properties. Tracey Lawson said the cleanup reached nearly every part of daily life.
