SPOKANE, Wash. — A familiar sound is set to ring out in downtown Spokane for the first time in over a decade. Beginning on the Fourth of July, the chimes in the Great Northern Clocktower in Riverfront Park will ring once again, according to an email release from the City of Spokane. That release said the chimes' restoration was a personal priority for Mayor Lisa Brown after she found out the system had been out of service for years.
