Tracking Food and Gas Prices in the Trump Era (Updated for August)
It’s official. The average cost of beef, both across the West and nationally, have reached record highs. The $7.44 per pound price tag across the West is the highest since last month, and the $6.92 average price nationally is the highest since April of this year. Anyone having summer barbecues have surely felt this cost increase. But, that’s not the only major pain point for consumers.
Tracking Food and Gas Prices in the Trump Era (Updated for July)
Despite gas prices getting a bulk of the attention nationally, the price of beef is something that has been steadily rising, with the cost of a pound of ground beef up more than 24% nationally since Donald Trump took office for his second term. In fact, the price of a pound of ground beef was the highest it’s ever been across the West region in July, at $7.36, according to the latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Tracking Food and Gas Prices in the Trump Era (Updated for June)
Inflation cooled in June, with the consumer price index falling 0.4% across all items. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “this decline in the all items index was the largest 1-month decrease since April 2020 when it fell 0.8 percent.” However, when we looked at the overall numbers, one thing (or one category) left us thinking, ‘Holy cow!’ That would be the cost of milk and beef, or cow products. That can certainly be seen in the price of gasoline.
Tracking Food and Gas Prices in the Trump Era (Updated for May)
Inflation rose overall in the month of May, with the consumer price index rising 0.5% during the month, following a 0.6% increase in April. Over a 12-month period, consumer prices are up 4.2%. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, energy was the main culprit for the rise, with the agency stating, “the energy index accounted for over sixty percent of the monthly all items increase.” That can certainly be seen in the price of gasoline.
Tracking Food and Gas Prices in the Trump Era (Updated for April)
In the month of April, prices on gasoline across the country reached more than $4 a gallon for the first time since October 2022. Across the West, the price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline rose to more than $5, the first time prices have hit that mark since October 2023. The average of $5.38 is also the highest gas prices have ever been in April across the Western United States.
